To help with the placement of beacons and to ensure no areas of your map are missing location data it is possible for you to generate a beacon coverage report within Sail. This will indicate to you areas where there is strong to weak beacon signals allowing you to alter your beacon placements for the optimal setup.
To generate beacon coverage follow these steps:
- Go to the Positioning Configuration>Beacons page in the web console
- Position beacons on the plan if you haven't already
- Toggle the 'Beacon Coverage' towards the top right of the screen
- Allow the coverage to be generated and it will then be displayed on the map as shown below:
In the above image you can see the areas of green where the beacon coverage is strongest, and is acceptable for indoor positioning where it is yellow/orange. If a user was in an area not coloured their device would be unable to see enough beacons for a position to be generated.
My beacon coverage was poor so I added additional beacons but the coverage report has not updated, what do I do?
If you generate coverage for your floorplan and then change the beacon setup then an icon will appear next to the Beacon Coverage toggle. This is to indicate that a change has been detected and that you should update the coverage, clicking the icon will do that.
